Casa Poggio – ‘The house on the hill’ – is an old stone farmhouse set in an olive grove in the Sabine Hills, just 40 miles north of Rome.

Casa Poggio sits in five acres of organic olive grove and orchard, high on the prow of a hill. When the morning mists clear you can see Rome in the far distance – but whether you’ll manage to get there or not is another matter. This is a very special spot. The views are equal to none – from the dome of St Peter’s on the horizon, to the blue hills of Umbria and the rugged Monti Sabini range behind. The massive ridge of Monte Soratte dominates the Tiber Valley below. It feels invigorating being up this high. The birdlife is spectacular. You can pick figs from the front door, and cook with Casa Poggio’s own organic olive oil.

This is a great location for day trips – Rome is just 45 minutes by train; Orvieto, Viterbo, Spoleto and Assisi are within hitting distance. But if you’re feeling lazy, it’s a heavenly place to simply recharge your batteries.

With an elegant pool tucked into the hillside, open May-October, Casa Poggio is a truly luxurious hideaway.
